“The ache for home lives in all of us, the safe place where we can go as we are and not be questioned.” – Maya Angelou

Whether you are moving in, moving out or staying put…Granted, home is much more than a literal place. Still, most of us agree that the actual physical space is pretty important. It’s where we go to rest, recharge, rejuvenate, be nurtured, connect with loved ones, and share our space with friends, family and our animal companions. It’s where we cook, clean, sleep, laugh, love and dream. Some of us even work from home. We commit to caring for it, decorating it, designing it, repairing it and maintaining it – especially if we own it (meaning we ‘gleefully’ pay our mortgage to some bank somewhere on the planet for years on end).

The town, city, suburb, ex-burb or rural locale where we choose to live contributes to our sense of well being. Our children go to school here, or perhaps we were raised here, or maybe we always fantasized about being able to move here.

In many ways, our home figures greatly in our identity. It doesn’t matter if it’s a studio apartment, a yurt, a farm house, a penthouse, a Colonial, a Victorian, a log cabin, a contemporary, a Tudor, a townhouse, a Winnebago or a house-boat.

It’s our home and it deserves (wants) to be blessed and celebrated too. Contact me to talk about a home blessing whether you’re moving in, moving out or have stayed put for several years and feel that your home, as well as you and your family would benefit from the ways in which ritual and ceremony can move and refresh energy, focusing on your particular intent and purpose.

Home blessing rituals are customized just for you and your family. Call me at 908-962-0642 or email me at dorry@circleoflifeceremonies.com to discuss your ceremony at no obligation. Your home just might thank you.

This I know for sure – good ceremony can take us home again – figuratively speaking of course.

Animal Ceremonies

Remembering the animals we love

These two dogs believe in the power of ritual. From their first downward dog stretch of the day, to their happy food bowl dance, to let’s play ball NOW-NOW- NOW, to following their person up and down the stairs, to greeting visitors at the door, to going for a walk (or wishing they were going for a walk or a car-ride) – it’s all ritual and it’s all good.

When my neighbor’s dog died I felt incredibly sad. Romeo was a noble shepherd-hound mix, and he had been my dog’s favorite pal. I knew that Romeo’s human counter-part, was going through a hard time, facing this loss. My own grief bubbled up inside of me when my dog, DJ, and I passed their home on our routine morning walk.

With my heart heavy and full, I needed and wanted to respond to Romeo’s passing in a meaningful way. So I sat down to write a tribute. I had to tell Romeo’s story—at least, the part I knew. READ ROMEO’s TAIL HERE: CLICK TRIBUTE TAIL LOGO TO READ ROMEO’s TAIL on TRIBUTE TAIL WEBSITE tribute-tails

Writing the story was a healing act for me. It was a place to express my grief, my concern, and most of all, my deep gratitude for Romeo because he had touched my life. Maybe it was as simple as that—a way to say thank you to this dignified creature for what he had given me. And to tell anyone else who cared to know, how much this sweet dog’s life had mattered.
Throughout my life I have grieved over the animals I have lost. And I’ve watched others experience heartache and sorrow after their beloved animal companion dies. We all know about the ceremonies and grief rituals that are there to support us when a fellow human dies; but the same is not so commonplace when a beloved animal passes. Why not?

It is with that in mind that I created Tribute Tails , providing a way for pet owners to memorialize and remember your deceased animal companion and beloved pet with a personalized, unique written tribute: for dogs, cats, parrots, birds, hamsters, guinea pigs, fish and all animals domestic exotic and wild.

Animal tributes don’t have to be relegated only to loss. I am happy to design an animal ceremony for other occasions: retiring a racehorse, bringing home a rescue, re-homing an animal, marking the graduation of a therapy dog or therapy animal, even a ‘blessing of the pack’ or a ‘don’t follow the herd’ ceremony – if you can dream it – we can create it. Or maybe you find yourself working with your own animal totem and wish to create a very special ritual just for yourself around it. That’s a great way to acknowledge both the purpose and guidance it is serving for you at this time.

As a funeral celebrant and a certified animal loss and bereavement counselor, I have studied and trained in this area in order to offer animal lovers a truly sacred space to acknowledge the value of their relationship to a special animal, to remember and honor that friend, and grieve their passing.

“Wildness is the state of complete awareness. That’s why we need it.”
—Gary Snyder

From a young age, I never questioned what I knew to be true—the animals that live with us aren’t just our pets—they are our family members. They live beside us without judgment, they accept us, teach us, and keep us connected to the natural world. They nourish our souls, feeding our primal selves—the part of us that just ‘is’— and in doing that they give us the greatest gift of all—freedom to be ourselves.

With every client, I re-commit myself to listen sincerely; to learn your animal’s unique tale; and to write your story in a personal, lasting tribute that will celebrate the pure, uncomplicated love you shared with
(or are sharing/loving/enjoying NOW) with your best friend. Call me at 908-995-4063 or email me
