A lasting, written remembrance telling your personal story about the cherished life-time shared with your dear animal friend.

How is my animal’s story created?
This unique tribute will reflect ‘your voice’; by including some direct quotes to describe your precious memories. Tribute Tails gathers your animal’s story from a gentle, unhurried pre-arranged phone meeting or from a questionnaire you’ll receive by email. Up to two of your family members or friends can contribute their sentiments also, by email or phone.

What kind of things will I be asked to tell you about my animal and our relationship?
Anything and everything. The day you brought your dear one home. The fun times you had together. The hard times. The frustrating experiences. The biggest laugh she ever gave you. What you miss most about him. Why the name you gave him suited him best. His personality—his quirks. Whatever is important to you. The sacred and the ordinary. Like that.

What if I want a picture of my animal included?
If you send a digital image, it will be included in the tribute.

Is Tribute Tails just for dogs and cats?
No. Tribute Tails are for all animals—those that are big, small, regular, exotic, friendly, boisterous, quiet, young, old, cute, beautiful—it’s for any animal you ever loved.

Will a Tribute Tail help me with my grief?
Your grief is very real. Each bereavement experience is extremely individual, with variations in the depth of pain, the length of time that may pass before you feel ready to resume your life’s activities with your usual vigor, and possibly even consider bringing another animal companion into your life again. Telling your story and being listened to deeply can help you heal. I know from my own experience that it always helps when someone is available to really listen.

Although, I am certified as an animal pet loss and bereavement counselor by the Association for Pet Loss and Bereavement (www.aplb.org) I am not acting in that capacity here. Please see the links page for resources to help you with pet loss and grief. Most of all, I hope you will take the time to be gentle with yourself and truly honor all of your feelings.

How long will my tribute be?
Most tributes are one page in length (approximately 500+ words,) but each animal and each relationship is unique. If your story is longer, your tribute will be longer.

What if I want a memorial service or funeral ceremony for my dear animal?
Tribute Tails would be honored to provide that service for you. Contact me and we can discuss it.

How will I receive my tribute?
You will receive your tribute by US mail. Your tribute tail will be printed on acid-free, parchment style letter size paper (8 ½ x 11) and is suitable for framing. It will be at least 500 words in length.  It will arrive tucked in a fine, gift box. If you send a photo of your animal via email or regular mail, that will be scanned and digitized into the tribute as well.  The original photo will be returned with the completed tail.

Will the same person I speak to or send my questionnaire replies be the one writing my animal’s tribute?
Yes, it’s just me here – Dorry Bless. Unless you count my 80 pound five year old labradoodle, DJ Shaman Jones ; my springer spaniel puppy, Patsy Moksha O’Brien; or my 16 year old Quaker parrot, Willie Dekeme Mutumbo. They might give me some insight but they won’t actually write anything.

Can I submit my Tribute Tail to my local newspaper if they’ll carry it?
Yes on two conditions:
1) email dorry@tributetails.com to obtain written permission to reprint
2 ) credit Tribute Tails in the newspaper listing

What if my animal is still alive and I would like to have a living tribute to give as a gift or keep for myself?
That’s a wonderful idea! Let’s celebrate the love you share with your animal.

Can I purchase a gift certificate for a friend?
Absolutely. On the "Purchase a Tail" page there is a form to fill out for a gift certificate. After I receive the completed form, along with your payment, I will send your friend a gift certificate describing the personalized tribute you have chosen to remember their dear animal friend.
